(More customer reviews)First off, I didn't buy this through Amazon, but this exact set was available at a local grocery store near my home. Still, I wanted to comment on how it performed before it broke on me.
I remember my parents having something similar when I was a kid. It seems theirs lasted forever, and in fact, I think they still have it. This one resembled that of my parents' but now that it is broken, I can see it isn't made the same.40 years ago nutcrackers like this were made of real steel and were more durable than these pieces of garbage that you buy today, which are most likely made in China of inferior materials.It is this reason why China is world leader, I suppose, because we keep buying from them even when we know it's cheap.
From a comfort standpoint, I will say this... even though the device cracked over 500 nuts, in the 4 months that I used it, it was rather uncomfortable to hold due to its short handle-size. Had they been 25% longer, it would have been easier on the hands.However, longer handles would also mean it might have broken a LOT sooner.Also the handle-girth is rather small, and when cracking hard-shelled nuts, it did cause a lot of discomfort from squeezing.
Given that this item lasted only 4 months of almost daily use, the fact it was uncomfortable and that it was made of inferior materials, I am giving this only a 2 star rating.I would recommend something with longer handles such as this item instead. Good Cook Profreshionals Lobster / Nut Cracker
